Outreach Trips

The ROC Youth Ministry is committed to local and international missions. Over the years, we have been able to minister all over the world. On all of our outreach trips we strive to fulfill our vision statement, challenge students in their faith, and allow students the opportunity to use their gifts and abilities to minister to the needs of others.

Wade Center: 2009

In 2009, we made our first trip to Bluefield, West Virgina to the Wade Center. The Wade Center exists to nurture Bluefield’s children and youth and their families spiritually, physically, emotionally and intellectually through practical programs and mentoring relationships. Last summer, they had almost 130 children enrolled in our summer camp, which provided a full day of educational and recreational support for children in the community. They also hosted about 20 missions teams, which completed work on 15 local homes and volunteered at the Union Mission! We enjoyed our week and were able to help run a sports camp, a back yard Bible school and work on construction projects around the community.

Kentucky: 1999-2009

Every year we take the middle school students to the eastern hills of Kentucky. This trip is designed as an entry-level missions trip to help students see that God can use them to build his kingdom and serve others. We do servanthood evangelism, such as building barns, painting houses, repairing roofs, and installing bathrooms. We always end the week with a community cookout, allowing the students an opportunity to use their talents in music and drama to present the Gospel.

Tunica, Mississippi: 2003,2004,2008

Tunica, Mississippi was found to be the poorest city in the United States in 1998. This small town is very racially divided. We partnered with area churches and ministries to do construction work and outreach in the community. In 2008, we worked at a therapeutic horse ranch for disabled children, repaired a roof, built a storage shed, and painted a church. Our ministry included visiting a nursing home and jail, installing smoke detectors in the community, door to door evangelism, and a big community outreach in the "sub" where we shared the gospel.

Jamaica: 2005 & 2007 - coming soon 2010

In Jamaica we stayed in the mountain city of Mandeville. On this trip, we did a variety of work projects (most involving pouring concrete) to serve the local community and churches. We were able to do street ministry including drama & music. We went to a Government-run veterans community, and also set up five school assemblies where we ministered to thousands of Jamaican students. As always, the end of the week featured a cook-out with the jerk chicken man as a means to reach out to the community through the local church.

Jerusalem Project: 2007-2009

In Acts 1:8, Jesus commissioned the disciples to go out into all the world and preach the Good News of Christ. The first place they were to go was their hometown of Jerusalem. Our equivalent of Jerusalem is the Winston-Salem area. In summer 07 we began with a week-long mission trip in Winston-Salem, primarily working with a local ministry called Potters House.

Ocean Springs, Mississippi: 2006

This trip was planned to help with the clean-up efforts in the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina. The team helped with debri clean-up, demolition, and gutting houses, so that the families affected could begin the rebuilding process. The team also ministered at a local church through music and drama ministry.

Argentina: 2003

On this trip we helped remodel a local church. We traveled to a few cities in Argentina including the capitol, Buenos Aires This major renovation helped the church get back on its feet and minister to the local community. The Argentinian people are very social, so we spent most of our time building relationships with the local church and missionaries. We helped the church organize a community outreach street party. A local band played, drawing a large crowd, and the church grew greatly from this event. We also spent time at a local orphanage ministering to the kids and helping with maintenance problems that they were unable to pay for.

Atlanta: 1999, 2002

Atlanta was an inner-city missions trip to the poorest section of the city to do street evangelism and outreach. We ministered to drug addicts, prostitutes, and the homeless. We ministered at homeless shelters and local churches through drama and music, and set up community cookouts to share the Gospel. In the mornings we assisted in running a summer camp for under-privileged children.
